Process Maps Reveal Route to Efficiency

posted on Thursday, August 01, 2013 by Submittal Exchange

Mapping out a process often leads to a more realistic picture of a project organization, allowing IT decision-makers to better understand how the adoption of a digital technology could bolster the effectiveness of teams.

Should technology such as scanning and e-mailing be leveraged to eliminate the need to maintain duplicate paper files? Does reordering activities have the potential to unlock efficiencies? Can tasks be delegated from project managers to clerks or from the field to a home office person with greater access to technology?

Process mapping has the power to transform notions that typically exist only in the minds of an individual into something tangible and viewable by all pertinent stakeholders on a team. The use of technology to automate superfluous process steps also has the potential to make ordinary work, routines and procedures faster and more efficient.

Our most recent white paper, “Process Mapping in Construction: Using process maps to improve efficiency, consistency and performance,” focuses on the value and benefits of process mapping in the construction processes.

Read more and find out how process mapping can help clarify the flow of value to a final product while revealing opportunities to eliminate redundancies that may be eating into the bottom line.

Have you ever participated in a process mapping exercise? What was the outcome? Was it helpful?
